The government of Odisha was formed in the year 1949 and the duty of the Service Commission is to recruit the most suited candidate to serve the state for various fields ranging from administrative services to the field of education. It releases notifications for various posts which fall under 4 groups such as
Group A would be for recruitment of posts in Odisha Administrative, Police Services, Judicial Services and apart from these posts OPSC also conducts exams for the recruitment of Assistant Professor for fields such as Plastic Surgery, Endocrinology, Neurology, Microbiology etc. The number of candidates shortlisted for interview for the posts of Assistant professor would be very less usually ranging from 2 to 6. The pay scale for Group A posts starts from 15000 to 39000 with added benefits that government employees enjoy.
Group B would be for posts such as Revenue, Taxation, Accounts, Research Officer, Forest Ranger, Assistant Fisheries Officer, Homeopathic Medical Officer, Assistant Soil Conservation Officer etc. The recruitment under Group B would also be done for the posts of Education Service such as Lecturer of Botany, Junior Lecturer in Chemistry, English etc., where in selected candidates would be posted in Schools. The selection would be based on a written exam followed by interview. The eligibility criteria is that the candidate appearing should not exceed 32 years. The Group B posts offer a pay ranging from 9000 to 34000 depending on the post.
Group C mainly comprises of posts such as Assistant section officer, Junior Assistant etc. The examination conducted would be for 600 marks which comprises of subjects such as English, Mathematics, Essay, General Awareness, Reasoning and Computer applications. The age limit is that the candidate appearing should be above 21 and below 32 holding an educational qualification of at least a Bachelor’s degree. The pay would start from 5,200 along with a grade pay of 1900
Group D consists of posts such as Stenographer, Junior Accountant etc. All these posts have a pay scale of Rs. 1025 and the minimum educational qualification desired is Intermediate Degree and according to the new rules the retirement age for Group D employees is 60 whereas for other groups it is 58.
