Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has been constituted in the year 2010, this was in pursuant of Jammu and Kashmir Civil services decentralisation and recruitment act 2010. The top positions in the board are held by various luminaries and all of them are appointed by the Government. Most of them are from the IAS cadre, KAS (Kashmir Administrative service) or persons who command great respect in the field of Education. Currently, the Chairperson of this board is Mrs. Dev Lata.
The recruitment of Non -Gazette posts falls under the ambit of SSB and has four different cadres.
The functioning of the board has been transparent. It follows the rules well in accordance with SRO 166 of 2005 dated. As per this notification all the vacancies within the subordinate services has to be published by 15th January of every year or further can get amended as per the SRO.
Once the board has the details of the vacancies that needs to be filled, it advertises for the same to every employment exchange, Press and other media houses so as to evoke maximum response in terms of applications. One of the important objective is to have more number of responses from permanent residents of Jammu & Kashmir (residency requirements binding).
Candidates who intends to secure a Job in District cadre can apply only from one district or from one Division for Divisional cadre posts. If he/she applies from more than one District or one division, his/her candidature will be taken from the place they originally reside in.
The selection procedure more or less remains the same but for some tweaks here and there. Board first conducts a written test to shortlist candidates for the oral test. The number of candidates shortlisted for the oral test will be five times the number of vacancies available. Once the examination rounds are done, the board shall finalize the list of selected candidates as per the rules laid. At the same time, the board all finalizes another list of 25% of selected candidates. This list will be in force for a period of 1 year. The final appointing authority may accept or send back this list asking for fresh selections.
